Reviews
Pains me quite a lot to update my review having been local to the pub for the last 10 years. There's been a lot of change over the last few years but at the moment there's definitely improvements needed.
It's by no means all negative, I do love the atmosphere and they have a great drink selection.
What's really letting it down at the moment are a few things...the bar is severely understaffed. On a quiet period it's completely fine but on weekends, quiz night etc having 2 people run food as well as serve at the bar is disastrous. On a full night every time I wanted to order a drink I was waiting 10-15mins. The staff are struggling! Not rude, but run off their feet and are visibly stressed to the point where no apologies for late food, slow service etc, they're just trying to keep up! Food arrived cold, no apologies or engagement, and then 30mins later told kitchen can't accept any more orders as they're busy.
Also prices are now very very high. I don't believe inflation and taxes are a valid excuse as you can genuinely get a cheaper drink in central London from a non chain pub.
As I say, there's been a lot of change over the last few years so I hope I can update my review in the near future
Food is great, specifically the Sunday lunch. But sadly the service on the last 3 occasions hasn’t been great. They don’t seem to take orders from the table, so you end up going up to the bar. They don’t actually say what you do to order. They don’t ask if you want any sauces, you have to call them back to the table. We’ve also never been asked whilst eating or when collecting our plates, how our food was. Basic customer service skills don’t seem to be part of the job description in this place! Really sad, as the food is good and it’s our local.
Last two times the tables have been rammed together with hardly any room between. But then you have the children’s activity table/area empty! Think maybe you need to make that space smaller or a space people need to specifically book. If it’s not booked, then spread people out more.
It's a lovely place! I had my birthday gathering there and we felt well looked after. The atmosphere was very friendly and the staff prepared a nice area for my party. I will do it again!
Love this local! Always a friendly welcome and a totally chilled vibe. House wine on offer and the wings are great (as is the steak n chips). I'd also recommend open mic night with some amazing artists.
Be back soon 😀 Cheers!
This is my local pub. I have a lot of love for it because they have a brilliant selection of beers on tap - try the Mangolicious IPA and the Dennis Hopper! Outdoor seating both out front and round the back is perfect for the summertime. Staff very friendly and attentive. Sometimes a bit let down by the quality of food and the fluorescent white lighting indoors is a little bizarre. Aside from that, it’s a Ladywell institution and certainly my favourite place to get a drink in this area. Would definitely recommend!
It's a nice local pub and I really enjoy being there - more for it being my local and there being not a great deal of other options. It's good though. …
The beer prices have gone through the roof. £7.65 for a pint of real ale (Northern monk) is ridiculous. An otherwise excellent pub but at those prices I'm going to have to find a different hobby!
Update:
Phew. Turns out a mistake was made. Have been refunded so all good now.
Update 2
Just had a pint of Porter. Very nice it was too. But £7.00 is a bonkers price for a cask ale. We also had a nice bottle of Malbec advertised on the menu at £26.90 but we were charged £28.80. A refund and an apology were fine, but I'd rather the prices were correct in the first place.
Food looks amazing. But I just had some decent cider. Very friendly barmaid chatted about their ciders - great to hear about cider instead of beer. A friendly smile goes a long way with me, thanks for making me feel welcome.
